What is the Centene Institute for Advanced Health Education® (Centene Institute)?
The Centene Institute for Advanced Health Education provides empowering interprofessional continuing education courses to providers, clinical employees, and other clinicians at no cost.
What is the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education?
Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ offers organizations the opportunity to be simultaneously accredited to provide continuing education activities for multiple professions through a single, unified application process, fee structure, and set of accreditation standards. Jointly accredited providers may choose to award single profession or interprofessional continuing education credit (IPCE) to athletic trainers, dentists, dietitians, nurses, optometrists, physician assistants, pharmacists, physicians, psychologists, and social workers without needing to obtain separate accreditations. Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ is the first and only process in the world offering this benefit. To learn more visit the Joint Accreditation website.
What is Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE)?
Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) is integral to providing patient-centered, high-quality healthcare to patients, and is the core of the Centene Institute’s programming. Effective interprofessional educational interventions provide healthcare professionals with unique opportunities to stay current on leading diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to the practice of medicine and insights to integrate interprofessional principles that ultimately improve the knowledge, attitudes, competence and performance of the healthcare team, which could have downstream resulting positive influences on patient health outcomes. According to the Institute of Medicine, IPCE “prepare(s) all health professions students for deliberatively working together with the common goal of building a safer and better patient-centered and community/population oriented U.S. health care system.”1
What are the important aspects of the Centene Institute’s IPCE program?
IPCE focuses on advancing the skills, strategy, and performance of teams of healthcare professionals. A team of multidisciplinary clinicians develop IPCE education (i.e. the “planners” of the IPCE) for an audience of teams of clinicians, (i.e. the learners). Building upon our greater purpose to transform the health of the community, our IPCE fosters a network of innovative, research-informed educational opportunities through which teams of healthcare professionals can share best practices and study the most current therapies. By building on the frameworks of interprofessional communication, values and ethics, our IPCE program improves whole health outcomes in the communities we serve, as well as the individual and team-based performance of healthcare professionals.
How much does each activity/course cost?
There is no cost to attend each course/activity offered by the Centene Institute.
How does the Centene Institute ensure its education is unbiased and independent?
The Centene Institute aims to ensure balance, independence, and objectivity in all educational activities, based on, and in compliance with, the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education published by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (“ACCME”). The content of educational activities and related materials must promote improvements or quality in healthcare and must be free from commercial influence.
In alignment with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, our IPCE policies specifically outline operational expectations governing how all education shall be free of commercial bias. Additionally, all content of the Centene Institute’s IPCE is based solely on clinically valid information that supports safe, effective patient care. Why do you ask for my National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) e-Profile ID and date of birth (DOB)?
For Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) approved activities and the associated continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit, Centene Institute is required to submit all credits earned by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to CPE Monitor®. As part of this credit submission reporting, Centene Institute is required to collect the learner’s NABP e-Profile ID (4-7 digits) and date of birth (MMDD format, no dashes and no year). CPE Monitor® is a national, collaborative effort by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) to track CPE credits.
What is my NABP e-PID?
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have a unique identification number (NABP e-PID) after setting up their e-Profile with National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). Providers of continuing education, like Centene Institute, ask pharmacist and pharmacy technician learners to provide their NABP e-Profile ID and date of birth (DOB in MMDD format) for credit reporting to CPE Monitor®. It will be the responsibility of the pharmacist or pharmacy technician to provide the correct information [i.e. e-Profile ID and DOB (in MMDD format)] in order to receive credit for participating in a CE activity.
How do I obtain my CPE credit?
Jointly Accredited providers, like Centene Institute, do not distribute paper statements of CPE credit to learners. If a learner would like a paper statement indicating CPE credit, the learner should print it from their NABP e-profile at https://nabp.pharmacy.
