Fall Prevention for Professionals in Healthcare

Fall Prevention Awareness Week is September 21st to 25th, 2026. This week is a reminder that many falls can be prevented through early awareness, education, and action.

To support these efforts, Sunshine Health’s Long Term Care Clinical Training Team invites providers and community partners to join us for our Fall Prevention for Professionals in Healthcare presentation.

The purpose of this presentation is to raise awareness of the importance of fall prevention and empower professionals in healthcare with information, tools, and resources. Participants will learn ways to effectively reduce the risk of falls for the adult population they serve, including older adults. Attendees will also gain awareness of risk factors as well as interventions that aim at reducing the risk of falls and how these impact the population they serve.

Target Audience

Provider: Unlicensed and licensed LTSS professionals and stakeholders including, but not limited to, direct care workers, administrators, facility staff, home health staff, nursing aides. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Summarize the importance of fall prevention.
  • Explain at least 3 causes for falls.
  • Describe the 3 key components of the STEADI initiative for fall prevention.
  • Choose 2 interventions for reducing the risk of falls with case scenarios.
  • Identify 3 resources for fall prevention.
