Clinical Topics in Behavioral Health - Module 4 - Depressive Disorders

In this course, clinicians will gain a thorough understanding of depressive disorders. The training will provide a deeper understanding of diagnostic considerations, common symptoms, comorbid conditions, useful ways to screen for depressive disorders, and evidence-based interventions. Clinicians will be able to apply knowledge learned in the training by completing a case scenario activity.

Target Audience

Licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the prevalence of depressive disorders in adults and children.
  • List two possible symptoms of depressive disorders and three considerations for diagnosis.
  • Recognize two comorbid disorders commonly associated with depressive disorders.
  • Name one evidence-based screening tool for detecting depressive disorders.
  • Identify two evidence-based treatment options for depressive disorders.
  • View the process for accurately diagnosing a depressive disorder through a case study activity.
