Social Determinants of Health

Attendees will gain clinical and practical knowledge on social determinants of health, the impact these determinants have on health disparities and inequity and strategies to address social determinants of health, health disparities, and inequity is the lives of those they serve.

Target Audience

Licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Define social determinants of health and list 3 examples.
  • Complete at least one activity to gain insight about the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH), health disparities, and inequity.
  • List at least two possible health disparities and discuss how SDOH may lead to health disparities.
  • Identify at least one component of health equity.
  • Gain at least one strategy or resource to address SDOH in an attempt to reduce health disparities.
