Adverse Childhood Experiences: The Study and Beyond

This training is a beginners introduction to the Adverse Childhood Experiences studies. It reviews the history of the ACE’s study and the outcomes of the original and subsequent studies. The training goes on to describe how ACE’s effect life long health, behavior and social outcomes. Finally it reviews evidence informed strategies to prevent ACE’s and the mitigate the effects of ACE’s.

Target Audience

Foster Care and Child Welfare professionals and stakeholders. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Foster Parents, Kinship Parents, and Caregivers.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

  • Identify the prevalence of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Discuss how Adverse Childhood Experiences disrupt a person’s wellbeing.
  • State two negative outcomes associated with Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Identify two prevention strategies.
