Understanding Depression: A Caregiver's Guide to Supporting Older Adults

This training educates caregivers on signs and symptoms of depression they may observe in care recipients. Caregivers will learn about interventions for addressing depression and how stigma may impact help-seeking behaviors. Finally, caregivers will be provided resources to address concerns of depression, including life-saving actions to take if care recipients express suicidal ideation.

Target Audience

Unpaid and Partially Paid Family/Natural Caregivers.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between sadness and depression.
  • Identify 2 signs and symptoms of depression in adults.
  • Identify at least 2 interventions to address signs and symptoms of depression.
  • State at least 1 barrier to address depression.
  • Describe 2 resources available to support your care recipient, including 1 specific to suicidal ideation.
