Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of Vulnerable Adults
The purpose of this one-hour training is to raise the awareness of individuals who work with vulnerable adults in Florida of the prevalence and impact of abuse, neglect, and exploitation (ANE). Attendees will learn who are considered vulnerable adults and how to recognize the signs, symptoms and risk factors of abuse, neglect and exploitation (ANE). Participants will also learn practical steps in prevention and intervention of abuse, neglect and exploitation, to include becoming familiar with the reporting standards in Florida to do their part in supporting vulnerable adults in the communities where they live, work and play.

Target Audience
Unlicensed and licensed LTSS professionals and stakeholders including, but not limited to, direct care workers, administrators, facility staff, home health staff, nursing aides. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.
Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.
Learning Objectives
- List at least 3 characteristics of a vulnerable adult according to Florida statute 415.102.
- Define abuse, neglect, and exploitation (ANE) and give one example of each.
- Recognize at least 3 possible signs, indicators, and risk factors of abuse, neglect and exploitation.
- Recall the steps to reporting abuse, neglect and exploitation when suspected and/or known.
- Identify 3 practical steps that you can take in your current setting to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
