Adverse Childhood Experiences: The Study and Beyond

This training is an introduction to the ACEs study. It reviews original and subsequent studies. It describe how ACEs effect life long health and other outcomes. Finally, it reviews evidence informed strategies to prevent ACEs and the mitigate the effects of ACEs.

Target Audience

Foster Care and Child Welfare professionals and stakeholders. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Foster Parents, Kinship Parents, and Caregivers.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the prevalence of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Discuss how Adverse Childhood Experiences disrupt a person’s wellbeing.
  • State two negative outcomes associated with Adverse Childhood Experiences.
  • Identify two prevention strategies.
