Autism Spectrum Disorder: Understanding Diversity and Uniqueness

This training will provide an understanding of the diagnostic information pertaining to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Presentation will also discuss prevalence, potential etiology, and risk factors. Training discusses common signs and symptoms of ASD as well as the DSM 5 TR criteria. Training also discusses co-occurring disorders, screening tools and treatment options available.

Target Audience

Licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss Autism Spectrum Disorder, including prevalence, causes and risk factors. 
  • Identify signs and symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. 
  • Discuss commonly seen co-occurring conditions with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Identify at least 3 screening tools available for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Identify at least 3 treatment options and available resources.
