Human Trafficking

This training is designed to provide a general overview of human trafficking. Providers will learn about the different types of trafficking, common occupations of traffickers, what populations may be at risk of becoming a victim, and short-term/long-term health impacts of being trafficked. Providers will receive information about ways to assess for and identify potential victims of trafficking and recommendations for prevention and intervention.

Target Audience

Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Define human trafficking by identifying 3 ways in which traffickers can control individuals who are being trafficked.
  • List 2 possible occupations of traffickers and the industries they exploit.
  • Name 2 conditions which might indicate trafficking in the present and/or throughout the lifespan of the trafficked individual.
  • Name at least 5 indicators of trafficking in those who have been trafficked.
  • Describe 2 components of a trauma/survivor-informed approach to prevention & intervention.
