Physical Health Conditions and their Links to Mental Health

Attendees will learn the connection between a person’s physical medical conditions and mental health. The course also stresses the importance of collaboration among physical and behavioral health providers and staff to improve health and wellness.

Target Audience

Licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Verbalize how chronic physical health conditions increase the members risk for  a mental health diagnosis.
  • Identify at least 2 physical health conditions that affect mental health.
  • Identify at least 2 strategies for managing physical health conditions that affect mental health.
  • Name 2 ways that providers are implementing Integrated care into their everyday practice.
  • List 3 screening tools used to identify behavioral health needs in members with chronic physical health conditions.
  • Discuss one thing learned in today that will change the way you care for members.
