Problem Sexual Behaviors: Typical Versus Non-Typical Behavior for Children Under 12
This training is geared to help caregivers and staff that are caring for children with sexual behavior problems ages 12 years and younger (This will not cover sexualized behaviors in adolescents, 13-17 years). This training will provide attendees with an overview of behaviors that are developmentally appropriate for children as well as behaviors that are less common/atypical or might be considered Problem Sexual Behaviors. Common responses as well as safety planning strategies for staff/caregivers will be presented. Finally, an overview of current best practices and treatment options will be discussed.

Target Audience
Foster Care and Child Welfare professionals and stakeholders. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.
Foster Parents, Kinship Parents, and Caregivers
Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.
Learning Objectives
- Identify at least 3 behaviors that would be considered developmentally appropriate in children.
- State at least 2 reasons problem sexual behaviors (PSB) occur.
- Identify at least 3 behaviors that would be identified as problem sexual behaviors (PSB).
- Identify at least 5 strategies to respond positively and therapeutically when a child exhibits PSB.
- Identify at least 3 treatment options, best practices and/or other resources.
