Shaken Baby Syndrome

The training introduces child welfare and STAR Kids stakeholders, caregivers and parents to the complex relationship of child abuse, neglect and Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). Also reviewed are key definitions, prevalence of SBS, and steps to prevent or report SBS.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize symptoms of SBS.
  • Understand the 4 types of cries and articulate the relationship of the PURPLE period relative to prevention and intervention.
  • Equip the child welfare stakeholder with action plans to prevent and intervene as needed.
