Strengths-Based Treatment

Attendees will explore and implement the strength-based approach to focus on the positive attributes of members, specifically viewing them as resourceful and resilient. We will understand the emphasis of this approach on being member led and centered on outcomes in the future individual’s set of strengths. The training will look at how to use open communication and thought process for individuals to identify the value and assemble their strengths and capacities in the course of change.

Target Audience

Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including, but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.

Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.

Learning Objectives

  • Examine the core concepts of Strengths-Based Treatment.
  • Review the Values in Action (VIA) classifications of strengths and apply them to case studies.
  • Apply the 5 steps of a Strengths-Based Intervention and Motivational Interviewing skills to case studies.
