This case-based session translates the 2026 AAP Clinical Report on the prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia into actionable primary care practice. The 2026 recommendations represent a substantive departure from the 2010 approach: screening now spans birth through adolescence rather than focusing on children ≤3 years, targets iron deficiency in addition to iron deficiency anemia, keys the timing of infant screening to primary nutrition source, establishes CBC plus serum ferritin as the universal laboratory screen, and adds universal screening for menstruating adolescents.

Target Audience
Pediatricians, Family Physicians, Other Physicians, and Advanced Practice Nurses. All segments of the workforce can benefit from foundational trauma knowledge.
