Youth Substance Use: Improving Outcomes
This training is intended to ensure members are getting the necessary services related to their substance use needs. It includes an explanation of the required service timelines related to the Initiation and Engagement in Treatment (IET) HEDIS measure. A brief overview of the severity of substance use diagnoses along with a review of the CRAFFT and SBIRT will occur. Treatment options will be explored and will include Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). Best practice tools will be described.

Target Audience
Foster Care and Child Welfare professionals and stakeholders. Unlicensed and licensed behavioral health professionals including but not limited to, social workers, graduate-level counselors, therapists, and substance use professionals. Unlicensed and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, nurses.
Practice Level: Beginner and/or Intermediate.
Learning Objectives
- State the percentage of Illinois students that reported alcohol use.
- Describe the treatment timeframes associated with the Initiation and Engagement for Substance Use Disorder Treatment IET HEDIS measure (Health Effectiveness Data and Information Set).
- Name the number of symptoms required for a substance use diagnosis associated with moderate severity.
- State the key components of the CRAFFT screener.
- Demonstrate understanding of brief intervention as it relates to Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).
- List one AUD and one MOUD Medication Assisted Treatment.
