
Understanding TBI: Building a Foundation for Support and Recovery (June 11, 2026)
Activity Description
As a continuation of the PHCO Brain Injury Program, this course will explore Acquired Brain Injuries (ABls), Disorders of Consciousness, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) types, neurological impacts, and recovery mechanisms such as neuroimaging, neuroprotection, and neuroplasticity.
REQUIREMENT: This session is part of the PHCO Brain Injury Program. In order to attend, learners must be registered in the PHCO Brain Injury Program in Centene University and attend the requisite eLearning modules that precede this learning.

Target Audience
Learning Objectives
- Analyze various types of Acquired Brain Injuries and Disorders of Consciousness to evaluate prognosis, treatment options, and family-centered decision-making
- Evaluate the neurological structures affected by brain injury and assess the role of neuroimaging, neuroprotection, and neuroplasticity in the recovery process
- Analyze the consequences of brain and spinal cord injuries on physical, cognitive, and behavioral functioning, and evaluate assessment and treatment strategies to optimize recovery outcomes
- Design and evaluate rehabilitation strategies that address physical, cognitive, emotional, and social recovery in patients with TBI, using outcome measures to guide and enhance effectiveness
- Assess the psychosocial impact of TBI on families and caregivers, and develop strategies to support resilience, manage caregiving stress, and adapt family roles effectively
